Pocket Facts

What:  Today we identified some tough facts that were tripping us up.  We recorded them and have had them siting on our desks today.  They are called pocket facts because we are taking them in our pocket and sharing them at home.  

So what: We can remember a fact that will help us.

Now what: "if I know that 1/2 of 30 is 15, then I should know that half of 300 is 150.  We can use our pocket facts to know so much more than just one fact.

What a great community

Saturday was a great day for us.   We enjoyed a visit from Vinny the horse and Max the dog.  Their lovely owner stopped outside our house and allowed us to pat her pets and even lead the horse to a trot.  It was a great time.  Thanks so much for stopping and sharing your lovely animals with us.  Many Normandale people spotted us there and there were lots of waves and toots. 
Normandale is a great community to live in.

Today we began the process of our own art.  Here are a few pics of some creations that will morph into art.  Watch this space

A Wonderful Setting

We closed our eyes, listened carefully and described what we could see, hear, smell, feel etc.  This was our initial lot of words.  Lets check this out compared to our edited version in a few days.

Graham Braddock Style Art

Today we had 2 fantastic sessions learning about Still life- Graham Braddock Style.  It was impressive to see how realistic the drawings looked after working hard at getting proportions right and shading coming along.  Watch this space for our art work.

Contributing to our Community

Yesterday 8 children from Superb 7 visited Lower Hutt City Childcare Centre.  There were many keen and anxious faces there to greet us.  We met the children, introducing ourselves and finding out a little bit about our new friends.  We shared a few great books and captured a picture of the 'shorter' learners.  We will make a book in "Serge Bloch" style to contribute to their library.

It was fun for all.

Andy Warhol watch out

We have been exploring saturation, contrast and definition etc when designing our own Andy Warhol Creations.

Fun in the sun with water.... and learning.

We had a great time today using water to learn some words.  Just another different way of learning.

Monday Maths

What level can you get to! Record any levels that you find more challenging and we will find more activities to work on that knowledge.  Remember this is knowledge, it is something that should be in your head.  Keep practicing !

Book of the Week

Butterflies in my stomach and other school hazards By Serge Bloch.

It was great fun to get a better grip on some of those confusing things that people say at challenging times.  We have used this book to focus on a particular art style.  I loved the creative edge that everyone had when using the artists style to recreate.  Well done.

"Cards anyone?"

Wow what a rush today for a pack of cards!  We played several games to work on our basic facts knowledge.  I also found a fantastic list of great games that you could play. 

Just google ' ideas for using cards to support the daily mathematics lesson' it is a PDF format!

Why are we Superb?

A Great Start!

It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic learners appear in Superb 7 today.  We have been introduced to our new blog and some have left a comment.  The sun wasn't really out but that didn't matter.  Richard was quick to observe some great produce from our garden! Watch this space for more.
